Did you know that not all carbon fibre auto car parts are not created equally? There are many types of carbon fibre in the market, so how do tell the difference between two products, and how do you differentiate the quality?

In this blog, we will talk about the differences and how you can determine whether the product is good or not.

1. Carbon Cloth Layout Pattern

Firstly, check the carbon cloth. Is it properly laid out? You need to make sure that the carbon cloth is not overly distorted, pulled, and it has to follow the flow, even on an intricate and unexposed surface. The join cloth should look tidy, too.

2. Parting Line

Next, check for the joint line between the upper parts and lower parts of the carbon fibre. Be sure to check out for crack lines. Low-quality carbon fibre tends to crack easily when you pinch it with your hands.

High-quality parting lines are hardly seen and have a gloss finish to it.

3. Vacuum Infusion Processed

With Vacuum Infused Process, these carbon fibre tends to be stronger and lighter. Check for the dimples on the rectangular shape on the carbon cloth and look at the backing too. The high-quality vacuum ones are smooth and tidy.

4. Resin – Clear Coat

This is the trickiest tip we have for this sharing session. Newer carbon fibre products are harder to differentiate. All you need to do is shine the carbon fibre product under a light (like torchlight) to see the gloss and reflection.

If the gloss and reflection are dull, then it’s cheap and low-quality carbon fibre. If the result is not immediately seen, you might need some time to get the result of the effect. After a few months of usage, you should be able to differentiate between high-quality carbon fibre and a low-quality carbon fibre more easily.

Common problems include dulling, bubbling, and yellowing that occurs on the coating. Don’t assume that putting on a new clear coat will wash away the yellow tone as it won’t, what it’ll do is just bring back the gloss and reflective surface but not the crystal clear transparency that you want.

If you notice that your carbon fibre doesn’t turn yellow after using it for a period of time, this is most probably that your carbon fibre has the same tone. Try to get a quality carbon fibre and place it side by side to do a test.
